Take a look at how much blue and silver from the
stock T-Maxx that you don’t see in this shot.

What’s the common bond between Mike Rooney, the
Pittsburgh Steelers and Steel City Hobbies? Beyond the
family ties, all are driven by the knowledge that success
is achieved by setting and reaching goals. This commemorative
Traxxas T-Maxx is a tribute to that success—a celebration of family, business and personal achievement that took decades to attain. Mike turned to Damon Cardone at Hardcore Racing to create his vision. Following such memorable theme vehicles as the Monster GT Spiderman and Orange County Chopper trucks featured in RC Driver, he knew that Hardcore had the talent to design and create a worthy radio control metal monsterpiece.

A helmet silhouette carries the football theme onto
the hood of the pickup.

A football field complete with goal posts and 50 yard
line marker!

The back bumper has a patriotic double-tier
treatment.

The custom wheels are accented by bearing-
supported spinners that carry the Pittsburgh
Steelers’ logo.

If you've gone this far, you might as well have an aluminum fuel tank and a Robinson Racing steel spur gear too.

The next stop of the truck’s tour will be its home at
Steel City Hobbies. Both the truck and the hobby
shop are worth the drive to see.

A Fantom FR27 with high-flow air filter, braided steel fuel line and Hot Bodies tuned pipe is at the heart of the tribute truck’s power.

The torn sheetmetal Steelers Silverado body is a custom airbrushed creation from BODZ.

This overhead three-quarter view best shows off the detail of the paintjob.

The underside of the chassis looks like something straight from a modern art gallery; you’re looking at countless CAD and machining time here.

Even something as simple as a bumper became a wonderfully complex jewel of metal.

The T-Maxx oversized center skid plate now commemorates the stadium’s logo.

Left: It’s easy to overlook the suspension arms because of their black color and smooth machining, but then you realize that’s aluminum supporting the truck. Right: The flat surfaces of the front skid plate became another canvas to incorporate into the design.

The radio boxes are custom milled aluminum, and the servos were given a faux carbon fiber graphic.
