Team Durango Launches the DEX410 - Team Durango Japan/Tresrey Support Driver Audition

Arguably the most anticipated R/C 1/10 scale electric off-road buggy ever, the DEX410 from Team Durango is here!

Built to compete and win, the DEX410 has been designed in Germany for serious R/C racers. The DEX410 has its heritage in the 2004 EFRA 4WD European Championship winning car.

Maximum Traction
The Team Durango DEX410's unique drivetrain is designed to win. The centre driveshafts are positioned over the batteries keeping the weight centred and low in the DEX410's narrow aluminium chassis, lowering the centre of gravity, aiding stability and control both on the track and in the air!

The power from your motor is fed directly into the centre mounted quick release spur gear and adjustable slipper clutch assembly, down the precision milled centre driveshafts into the fully enclosed metal gear differentials and finally to the wheels via the ballraced and rubber booted steel driveshafts. All of this ensures perfect power delivery and elimates transmission slip; apart from what you choose to dial-in on the adjustable slipper clutch.

Alloy as Standard
The DEX410 comes with race developed alloy parts as standard, including an aluminium chassis (precision milled from 2mm 6061 T6 aluminium) which is unique in its class.

The front uprights, steering linkage, servo mount, suspension pivots, motor/spur gear mounts and the rear differential mounts are provided in the same high strength alloy, reducing component failures and keeping you in the race!

The gold anodised alloy spacers, washers and hex drives not only look stunning but they also reduce weight and will last many times longer than plastic alternatives.

Carbon Shock Towers
Included as standard with the DEX410, the ultra-thick 4mm milled carbon-fibre shock towers provide rigid and durable mounts for the Team Durango hard anodised threaded shock absorbers and springs.

Titanium Turnbuckles
Designed and included at the request of professional racers, the titanium turnbuckles are not only lighter and resistant to corrosion compared to steel, the increased material strength means they won't bend as easily or round off during adjustment.

Maximum Adjustability
The DEX410's suspension is fully adjustable in a number of ways; including camber, toe, alignment, ride height and anti-roll bar preload.

In addition to these adjustments, included in the kit as standard are a number of aluminium alloy suspension pivots in varying drops and multiple anti-roll bars to allow you setup the DEX410 to suit your racing style.

Team Durango Japan – Tresrey support driver audition
Team Durango’s Japanese distributor Tresrey sent us this report from their support driver audition race held last weekend at the TRS circuit.

TRESREY 2010 OFF-ROAD RACE ROUND-1 (Team Durango Support Driver Audition) was held on January 24, 2010 at TRS circuit, Matsusaka-city, Mie pref.

47 racers joined the race making it the best-attended race that the TRS circuit ever had for an off-road event. 37 cars raced in the 2WD class and 38 cars raced in the 4WD class including 10 DEX410s.

Takashi Nobuhara got TQ and best lap for both 2WD and 4WD classes.

In 2WD class Takashi Nobuhara won the race by pole-to-finish, Akihiro Yasuda as 2nd with Hideki Nakajima 3rd. Team Durango/Speed Passion Japan team driver Minoru Utsugi was 8th in qualifying and finished 10th in the final.

There were 10 DEX410s in 4WD class and 3 of them made the final A-main. Kyoji Minagawa, started from 2nd position, and eventually won the race ahead of Akihiro Yasuda, with Shinichi Kurotani in 3rd with his DEX410. (Minoru Utsugi finished 6th and Echigoya finished 7th, both driving DEX 410’s).

Unfortunately, none of the drivers were chosen as “Team Durango Support Driver” this time, because no-one qualified within the target time. However, Tresrey have decided to choose a kind of “Local support driver” soon. The details will be posted on the Tresrey web site shortly.

Thanks to the warm support from everybody who attended the race. Even though it was the first time Tresrey had organised an off-road race, everything went perfectly and everyone had a great time.

After the award ceremony, Tresrey held a “Big Draw”; prizes included a DEX410 kit and Speed Passion ESCs.

TQ Racing SW10 4W – Four Wheel Drive Competition Car – Sneak Peak!

At the CRCRC Midwest Winter Championship race in Columbus Ohio, the new TQ Racing was spied in the pits.

The newest challenger for the 4wd market will come in competition and ready to run versions. The new car features a composite saddle chassis with fully independent suspension featuring TQ Racing’s hard anodized, lightweight threaded shocks, full ball bearings, slipper clutch, titanium turnbuckles, front and rear differentials, as well as the normal compliment of adjustments.

The car was not run in the event, as it was just received by team drivers just days before the event. Early reports from Team Drivers are that the car is very easy to drive, really smooth and easy to drive fast. TQ Racing Team drivers are now starting an intensive test program to make sure the car that is brought to public is fast reliable and AFFORDABLE.

That’s right AFFORDABLE. The TQ Racing’s design goal from the start has been simple: “Make it Fast” and “Make it Affordable”.

TQ Racing debuted its electric off-road competition car product line in December of 2009, with immediate success. JP Richards used the SW10 2w two wheel drive car to win the 2wd Super Stock Class and finish 3rd in 2wd Modified at the J Concepts Clash in Tampa FL. Reedy Releases A Competition Exhaust System

Reedy’s 2035 and 2039 mufflers feature a 3-chamber design for a linear power band and exceptional all-around performance. A reinforced stinger and hard-anodized finish increase durability, while a single-piece pressure nipple is positioned for maximum body clearance and to lessen the chance of the pressure line being knocked off in crash.

The 2035 muffler is incredibly powerful on the bottom end with good straight-line speed. On the other hand, the 2039 muffler is softer on the low end than the 2035, but is capable of more RPM and higher top speeds. A Main Hobbies Announces ProTek R/C "Supreme Power" Li-Poly 40C Hard Case Battery Packs

Chico, California, January 19, 2010 – A Main Hobbies today announced a ProTek R/C brand Lithium Polymer 2-cell hard case power battery pack for radio controlled cars, with 5000mAh of capacity and a true 40C constant discharge rate. Lithium Polymer batteries produce longer run-time with less weight than traditional NiMH cells and have no memory effect! They can be charged hours or days ahead of time and may be used and recharged limitless times per day.

These packs come with one of the following connectors: Deans style T-plug (with or without balance plug) or Pin style.

These battery packs are built using a hard plastic pack that is required for use at ROAR sanctioned tracks and events. The packs are thin enough to fit into all touring cars and off-road vehicles, and with the humps on the bottom will be secure in vehicles designed for side by side NiMH race packs.

These ProTek R/C battery packs can be used in any application where you need 6-cell NiMH stick or race packs, such as 1/10th scale electric touring cars or 2wd and 4wd off-road vehicles. These packs are significantly lighter when compared to regular NiMH race packs. This makes the overall vehicle weight lighter for significantly improved acceleration. These batteries also have a nominal voltage of 7.4V compared to the 7.2V of regular NiMH batteries, and have a lot lower internal resistance. This leads to better top speeds and improved 'punch' off the line when compared to NiMH batteries.

Note: Some vehicles may require some re-balancing if the light weight of these batteries cause some handling changes. To get the vehicle to balance correctly, add some weight to the battery side of the vehicle.

2C Maximum Charge Rate!
This battery pack is designed to be safely charged at 2C, twice the normal 1C charge rate required for most Li-Poly battery packs. With a 2C charge rate, you can get these battery packs fully charged in only slightly more than half the time it will take to complete a 1C charge.

The Latest Spec Baja Buggy, now with a 2.4GHz Radio!

When the designers at HPI released the original Baja buggy to the public, we didn't realize the absolute storm of popularity it would enjoy. Racers everywhere loved it, reviews from all over the world absolutely glowed with enthusiasm, shops ran out of stock and brand new companies sprung up to make wild hop-ups for this one-of-a-kind machine. We had just as much fun tracking all the praise as we did for the Savage monster truck! The HPI Baja: the original, and still the best!

The latest version of the Baja 5B 2.0 gives you a 2.4GHz radio system, more speed, better acceleration, improved handling and THREE fantastic new looks! New Body Colors

Revised 23cc Engine
The new engine fitted in the Baja 5B 2.0 features an updated cylinder that provides 10% extra power! When combined with the High Flow Muffler and 8000 RPM clutch, you'll experience much faster top speeds, better acceleration and more power overall!

High Flow Muffler
The High Flow Muffler from the Baja 5T is a much larger capacity design than the old standard muffler, and is tuned to give you more horsepower on the track. It sounds fantastic, too! When the Baja 5B 2.0 is ripping past the pits, you will know it!

8000 RPM Clutch
Formerly an option part, the high performance 8000 RPM Clutch from the Baja SS and 5T is used to give you more punch off the line. Lightweight clutch shoes and a strong heavy-duty spring are the integral parts of this unit, and you will feel the power out of the turns.

VVC/HD Shock Absorbers
These are the same damper units that equip the Baja SS and Baja 5T, and are now standard parts for the 5B 2.0 - these are oil-filled, externally adjustable coilover shocks for fantastic performance and heavy-duty action! Thick shock shafts provide security from crashes, threaded shock bodies allow instant ride height changes, and the externally adjustable design is tailor-made for trackside tuning.

Torx T27 Engine Screws
The engine now features tough Torx T27 screws to make maintenance and rebuilds less of a chore. Torx screws are easier to work with and provide less wear and tear on tools and screws, making them the ideal screw option for a Baja buggy engine!

Gunmetal Anodizing
The v2.0 update includes a total reworking of all the aluminum parts of the Baja buggy, from the chassis to the spring adjust collars! The very cool gunmetal look gives the Baja 5B 2.0 the 'race' look, and it's easy to add a bit of bling with Baja SS or original 5B color parts.

Fantastic Baja Features
The Baja 5B 2.0 keeps the standard features that made the original Baja 5B such a stand-out large-scale buggy, and which continue to single it out from all the rest of the large-scale buggies - as well as all of the copies! The HPI Baja is the ONLY large-scale buggy line-up that has all of these great features!

Scale Appearance
From the first glance, the Baja buggy looks just like the sand rails and desert racers you can see racing across the Sonora in Baja California, or blasting around the sands dunes of the American Southwest. Nothing else in the RC world comes close! From the bumper and front suspension, to the cockpit and rollcage, all the way to the wing and rear bumper, in the looks department, the HPI Baja is second to none.

Extremely Durable
HPI has always been known for its extremely rugged cars and trucks, starting with our earliest touring cars and carrying on with monster trucks and large-scale machines. The Baja 5B 2.0 uses the same suspension components as the Baja SS and 5T, so you know you've got a quality buggy in your hands. While the ones that came after the original Baja use cheap plastics and questionable methods to make their kits, the original is still going strong with original designs and compounds to keep you going, no matter what you put your Baja through!

Monocoque Chassis
Still a unique item among the large-scale racing crowd, the Baja 5B 2.0 continues to use the unique Baja monocoque aluminum chassis. The chassis formed from strong 6061 aircraft aluminum for light weight and strength, then bent into shape with computer precision to make it into an extra-rigid and super-strong platform for the engine, suspension and all other components of the Baja.

Long Travel Suspension
For confidence-inspiring traction and control on any type of surface, the Baja 5B 2.0 uses the amazing long-travel suspension used for all the kits in the Baja series. Extra-long oil-filled shock absorbers and durable suspension arms connect via specially tuned suspension geometry to give not only a fantastic look and style to the Baja buggy, but amazing versatility, tuning potential and great handling!

Viscous Torque Differential
The totally unique Viscous Torque Diff in the Baja series delivers power smoothly to the rear wheels. It's set up out of the box perfect for most purposes already, but the diff can be tuned with different diff greases to suit any driving style or track. Hardened metal is used throughout the diff for reliable performance in all conditions.

Dual Vented Disc Brake
To bring something the size and speed of the Baja buggy to a safe and controlled stop, the brakes need to be extra-strong, reliable and foolproof. This is why we use two steel plates for brake discs, both of which are drilled for lightness. To keep the discs cool under pressure, a fan-shaped spacer is used blast rotating air through the vent holes drilled in each disc.

Long Wheelbase
In addition to everything else that makes the Baja 5B 2.0 handle great, its long wheelbase is ideal for racing on large tracks designed for 1/5th scale vehicles, or just playing in big fields. The Baja 5B 2.0 is more stable over jumps and rough ground than other large-scale cars, a tribute to its great suspension design and longer wheelbase.

Electronic Failsafe
Nitro racers have known for a long time that having a working failsafe system is important for those 'just in case' moments - some unforeseen event that could make their car go out of control. With a buggy as big as the Baja (over 800mm long and 9.5kg in weight!), this is even more important! The Baja 5B 2.0 uses the same reliable electronic failsafe as all other Baja RTR kits. The adjustable failsafe setting ensures that should your Baja 5B 2.0 lose radio signal, instead of flying out of control it will come to a safe and controlled stop! There's nothing like peace of mind!

Sealed Radio Box
We know that most off-roaders love to blast through dirt, mud, water and more, so we protect the electronics of the Baja as much as possible with a sealed radio box. In addition to being under the body to protect from splashes, the radio box uses rubber plugs to provide access to the receiver battery and radio crystal, so you don't need to unscrew anything to get to these often-accessed items. If you do need to remove it, it's a simple matter of a few clips to take it out - no tools necessary!

All-Terrain tires & Beadlock Wheels
To allow the Baja buggies to go anywhere, we fit tires that are ideally suited for off-road conditions. Spiked rear tires and dash-style front tires provide the perfect amount of traction and control on nearly all dirt, gravel and grass surfaces. The Dirt Buster S Compound rear tires use a versatile square pin design that sheds mud and gets you the grip you need for massive top speed runs, while the Dirt Buster rib tires provide the direction and steering necessary for pinpoint accuracy on the track.

High Capacity Fuel Tank with Clunk
The fuel tank from the Baja 5B and 5T is unchanged - why update something that is already perfect? The 700cc fuel tank takes pre-mixed 2-stroke fuel for run times of 45 minutes or more (if you're going slow, but who does that?), and the handy 'clunk' inside allows you to get upside down and not worry about the engine cutting out. So when you're mixing it up in traffic on the race track you won't have to worry about getting flipped upside down!

Adjustable Rear Wing
For most Baja buggy owners, the rear wing is something that is never touched until the car needs to be picked up or flipped over. Racers, though, are a different matter: racers like to tune things and play around with settings to get a little extra edge. So for the racers, we made the rear wing of the Baja adjustable so you can get a bit of extra downforce on small tracks, or lower the wing a bit for more speed on big tracks. Will you feel the difference? Only you'll be able to tell!

Hard Plastic Skid Plates
With tough nylon plastic skid plates front and rear, the chassis of the Baja 5B 2.0 is protected from the inevitable hard landings, crashes and more that you're sure to encounter while you're running your Baja buggy. The skid plates are easily replaced, and are a much cheaper alternative than replacing the aluminum chassis or motor plate, so you won't be afraid to pull off those crazy jumps with your Baja!

Complete Set of Ball Bearings
Finally, full set of high-quality ball bearings are used throughout the drivetrain for increased efficiency and long runtimes. Throughout the transmission and drivetrain, plus the front wheel hubs, ball bearings help keep maintenance to a minimum so you can just get out and run your Baja!

The Baja 5T was inspired by the latest generation of desert trucks that compete in the world famous Baja 1000 race in Mexico. The body was built for a perfect fit on the Baja 5T chassis, with sculpted fenders, scoops, louvers, and an integrated roll cage for authentic desert-tough looks. In true HPI RTR form, the body is completely ready to go right out the box... painted in your choice of black or white, mounted, pre-applied racing decals and tinted windows. Keeping the body securely attached is a body mounting system with tough nylon construction, 8 mounting points to distribute the stress on the body, and fully adjustable for compatibility. A molded nylon rear spoiler is included for off-road stability, with an integrated rear body brace for extra strength. But the Baja 5T goes way beyond looks, under the skin is a tough truck with the power to mow down anything in its path. Power comes from a massive 26cc gasoline engine, delivering rock solid performance, easy tuning and run times of more than 30 minutes on a single tank. The high performance 8,000 RPM clutch and new high flow muffler give the Baja 5T the power to launch with a roost of desert dirt on the way to a screaming top speed of more than 40 MPH.

The steering servo is a massive metal geared unit for quick steering, and lots of torque. Standard equipment includes a high capacity NiMH rechargeable receiver pack and an AC charger. The radio system is protected by a sealed housing with an external charging jack, and both servos are water resistant designs that allow the Baja 5T to be driven in extreme off-road conditions.

For improved handling, the Baja 5T rear shock tower has been modified for increased rear suspension travel. All four shock absorbers have thick diameter shafts for extra durability. The VVC/HD shocks are tuned for smooth suspension dampening to help soak up the desert terrain. ST Racing Concepts CNC Machined Aluminum Rear Chassis Brace and Mount, CNC Machined Aluminum 12mm Hex Adapters, and Graphite Center Plate w/Alum. Stand-offs
The CNC Machined Aluminum Rear Chassis Brace and Mount consist of three precision machine pieces: The upper brace mount, the chassis brace, and the lower brace mount. The three components provides a much more rigid rear chassis support that tightens up the rear chassis of the Hyper 10SC while adding a bit of weight to the rear of the truck as well (picture shows silver prototype, production will be anodized gun metal). A few months ago, we released a roof-mounted light bar set that worked on all 1/8th and 1/10th scale Short Course bodies. That left a huge gap in who could run lights on their vehicles. Our newest light set – the RPM Narrow Roof-Mounted Light Bar Set cuts a full 2” off of the width, reducing the number of LED light canisters to four and allows virtually anyone running a vehicle with a minimum 4” body width to run LED lights on their vehicle. The goal of our Narrow Roof-Mounted Light Bar Set was to recreate a scale version of those light bars found in full-sized racing while striving for some reasonable amount of crash-survivability. Our Light Bar Set uses a unique hinged system that in the event of a rollover, the light bar will fold against the body to help reduce impact damage. The light set is designed to bolt to the front windshield of the truck (although with sufficient room, it can be mounted to the rear window as well), keeping the profile low and in the perfect position to light up the night. Each kit comes with a pair of large backing plates that help protect the body where the screws hold the light bar in place.

Each kit comes complete with all necessary mounting hardware, light canisters, molded parts and instructions. The instructions also show how to easily create your own LED light set-up with a few basic electronics skills, some tools and a little patience.

We mold these light bar sets in black and chrome to match or contrast any paint and color scheme.

Kyosho 1/9 EP Ultima DB 2WD Racing Desert Buggy Ready Set

Influenced from the actual buggies raced in the Baha area, this new buggy goes back to the good old days of pipe framed buggies. The chassis is based on the Ultima SC meaning that the performance is guaranteed. The chassis is stretched from the original RB5 buggy and large enough to be considered a 1/9th scale. This Ready Set (Ready to Run) is not just a backyard basher but a fully race ready chassis with many of the high performance traits from the Ultima RT5.

Vertical ball studs for the both inner and outer rod ends of the upper link means the rear suspension geometry can be fine tuned with shims.
• Front Suspension - Symmetrical suspension arms connect to a narrow front bulkhead. The bumper/skid plate, suspension block, nose plate and front bulkhead all come together to form a very rigid assembly, to which the front suspension arms mount to. The standard position of the suspension mount produces 25 degrees of hinge pin angle in the front arms, but simply flipping the suspension mount increases hinge pin angle to 30 degrees. The added flexibility of having adjustable hinge pin angles means you have more options when it comes to setting up your truck. Like the rear arms, a single replacement arm can be used on either side.
• Floating Axles - While floating axles ride in bearings that are mounted in the nub instead of the wheel, this moves the weight of the bearings inboard for extremely more responsive suspension. The bearings are under less stress, and they're better shielded from the elements.
• Steering Assembly - The steering bellcranks are mounted on the chassis at the same angle as the suspension arms. This eliminates bump steer and produces more accurate Acherman geometry throughout the entire range of steering motion. The steering plate (center link) features horizontally mounted ball studs, which mean the Acherman can be fine tuned by using shims behind the ball studs offering a nearing infinite range of adjustments.
• Captured Hinge Pins - A simple button head screw captures all the outer hinge pins of the Ultima DB. The rear inner hinge pins are truly captured between the suspension mounts, and the notched inner front pins are secured with a setscrew through the front suspension mount. This means that the hing pins are much more secure and less likely to come loose.
• Shock Towers - The front shock tower is mounted as far back on the chassis as possibly, as are the shocks, to keep the mass as low as possible. The rear shock tower is also designed to keep a low profile, yet allow enough suspension travel to ensure the best possible handling. The shock towers are molded from an exhaustively tested composite, which is much more costly to produce than shock towers made from woven graphite, but will also provide greater durability.
• Threaded Composite Shocks - The composite shock bodies feature a threaded spring pre-load collar for quick and easy adjustment. The threaded adjuster features an O-ring that prevents the preload settings from moving, which ensures consistent performance from start to finish.
• Fan Cooled 20 Turn HP Motor - High performance and longevity are the key features of the G20 motor. It has an internal cooling fan so the motor stays cool and strong from run to run.
• Reliable Perfex Radio System - Pre-installed KR6 AM. receiver and a reliable Perfex KT6 pistol grip transmitter.
• Lipo or NiMh - The Perfex ESC is compatible with either Lipo 7.4v 2cell or 8.4v NiMh (7cell).
