Marc Rheinard & TRF416X Win 2010 IFMAR ISTC World Championships!
The 2010 IFMAR ISTC Electric Touring Car World Championships were held from July 1st-3rd in Burgdorf (near Hanover) in Germany. Tamiya Racing Factory (TRF) was there in force, with Marc Rheinard laying down the gauntlet by taking the top qualifying position with his TRF416X. He then took full advantage by winning the first two A-Main heats to claim the world championship title. Having won the title in Thailand back in 2008, this win makes it two titles in a row for Marc and is also his third overall. This is also Tamiya's fourth world championship title, following wins in 2002, 2004, and 2008. Other TRF drivers also put in strong performances, with Elliott Harper taking 3rd place on a tie-break, Jilles Groskamp taking 6th place, and Viktor Wilck taking 10th place, thus giving Tamiya four Top-10 finishers!
Maifield Victorious At Inaugural Alabama Manufacturers Shootout
Team Associated's Ryan Maifield was on a mission at the Inaugural Manufacturers Shootout in Cullman, Alabama. Traveling from the desert of Arizona, the reigning Car Action Driver of the Year took his Reedy-powered RC8B and RC8T to Alabama to put on a display of speed while lending a hand to local and visiting racers. With over 370 entries and a host of the nation's top drivers on hand, the competition was close throughout the three rounds of qualifying.
As the reigning ROAR Truggy National Champion, Ryan showed everyone he's ready to defend his title by placing his RC8T-CE truck in the Top Qualifying position in the Expert 1:8 truck class. Ryan utilized his JConcepts Punisher body, Illuzion wing, and Sevens truck tire to dominate qualifying.
In the 1:8 Expert buggy class Ryan had to settle for the 3rd qualifying position, but entered the main confident with fast consistent runs each round. Joining Ryan in both Expert A Mains were Team Associated/Reedy teammates JR Mitch and Chris Pace.
The 1:8 truck A Main got off to a great start with Ryan leading out. However, a forced tire change put him almost two laps down to the new leader, but without a flinch Ryan put his RC8T truck into top gear, laying down the fastest 20 laps in the A Main. With only a handful of laps to go, Ryan was within striking distance but just ran out of time and had to settle for 2nd overall.
After the Main a host of fans and fellow racers followed the fastest truck in the A Main back into the pits to see the details. With one of the most memorable and hardest drives in recent memory, Ryan's RC8T was one of the few trucks remaining in the A Main with tread left on the tires.
After coming up just short in the Truggy class, Maifield was out for redemption. On the opening lap, Maifield navigated past the top two qualifiers and crossed the line first to lead the first lap and subsequently every lap thereafter. With a fresh mindset, Ryan's Factory Team RC8B was completely dialed and proved to be up to the challenge. Punishing the rest of the drivers, the lead began to grow considerably as control and caution set in around 25 minutes into the race. Ryan settled into a great rhythm and eventually lapped the entire A Main while the Green JConcepts Subcultures tires went the complete distance.
Congratulations also goes out to Team Associated/Reedy's JR Mitch for his pair of 8th place finishes in 1:8 Expert Buggy and Truggy along with Chris Pace's 12th and 11th place finishes respectively.

O’Donnell Dominates Coast to Coast!
O’Donnell East Coast Championship
RC Excitement / Fitchburg, MA
O’Donnell West Coast Championship
Revelation Raceway / Montclair, CA
If you want to talk about a busy schedule, let’s talk about the O’Donnell crew’s coast -to-coast adventure! The journey began at the incredible RC Excitement facility in Fitchburg, MA, for the first annual O’Donnell East Coast Championship. The RC Excitement crew did a fantastic job preparing the track for an awesome weekend of racing.
During qualifying, East Coast factory O’Donnell team driver Mike Wilder showed that having the home track advantage does pay off. He piloted his brand new Z01-B SG buggy to the TQ position over West Coast superstar and factory O’Donnell driver Barry Baker. Not to be outdone, Baker went on to take the TQ spot in e-buggy with the Z01-E SG — and the TQ spot in truggy as well, with his Z01-T SG.
In the main events, however, the Fabulous Barry Baker put on a driving clinic with the new line of SG vehicles from O’Donnell racing. Baker has been smoking the competition by powering his nitro vehicles with the O’Donnell SS .21 / O’Donnell R2 pipe combination. It has proven to be the ultimate package of power, smoothness and economy.
The following day, it was back on a plane to the West Coast for the annual O’Donnell West Coast Championships at the world-famous Revelation Raceway in Montclair, CA. Once again the Rev crew had built a challenging track for the racers. During qualifying, O’Donnell Fuel driver Dylan Rodriguez used his 30% Racing blend from O’Donnell to lay down the TQ in both buggy and truggy.
When the main events rolled around, it was a whole different story. The top spot changed hands throughout the race. In the end, O’Donnell factory driver Barry Baker, fresh off of his truggy win out East, let them know who the boss was as he piloted his O’Donnell Z01-T SG to victory over his O’Donnell teammate Mike Moralez. Both drivers were running the O’Donnell SS .21 / O’Donnell R2 pipe combination.
All in all, it was a crazy couple of weeks for the O’Donnell crew. But once again, they proved that the only way to the winner’s circle is by using the full line of O’Donnell Racing products!

Thunder Power RC is excited to announce that Team Driver Paul Lemieux reigns victorious by winning the International Invitational Class at the 2010 Reedy Race of Champions using TP610C chargers and 5200mAh Pro Race 50C series batteries.
LAS VEGAS, NV; June 7, 2009 – Contending for a Reedy Race of Champions title was no small feat at the May 29-30, 2010 event hosted by Nor-Cal Hobbies in Union City, CA. This grueling two-day event consists of racing in three open-to-the-public touring car classes: 13.5T, 17.5T, and Open/Modified. In addition, the International Invitational Class featured the top talent in the field of on-road racing from around the world. Twenty-two of the world’s best drivers competed head-to-head for the championship title in this unbelievably competitive class. The Reedy Race of Champions format is a tough 8 rounds of assorted heat races consisting of 4 rounds of racing each day. All races began with random starting position and ended with points associated to each driver for their finish position (1st place = 1 point, 2nd place = 2 points, etc.). The overall winner was determined by the lowest tally of the best out of 6 finishes as drivers were able to throw out their worst (highest) 2 scores.
Team Thunder Power RC driver, Paul Lemieux, competed in the International Invitational Class driving his X-Ray T3R touring car powered by potent and class-leading Thunder Power RC 2S 7.4V 5200mAh Pro Race 50C batteries (TP5200-2SPR50D) charged using compact yet powerful TP610C chargers. Lemieux competed head-tohead with the best international drivers including current World Champion, Marc Rheinard of Germany. At the end of day one, Paul was tied for 1st place with Viktor Wilck of Sweden. At the end of Day Two, Paul was crowned champion of the 2010 Reedy Race International Invitational Class. Considered by many as one of the world’s best on-road racers, Paul finished out the two-day racing event with six 1st place finishes
total!
Thunder Power RC is proud to be the power behind Paul’s 2010 Reedy Race win.
Team Durango DNX408 – Track Testing Update
The testing period for any new car is intense, but for the DNX408 it has been especially so. Because there are so many 1/8 nitro buggies available for the RC racer to choose from, Team Durango want to ensure that when we release our 1/8 nitro buggy into an already crowded class, we do so with a leading-edge car that is as strong and reliable as it is innovative.
Team Durango’s philosophy of only releasing a car when we are 100% happy with it means that we have to test, re-test and test again. If more testing is required, we do it. We are serious about racing and we are very serious about pre-production testing.

James "Turbofest" Caruso wins at ECC with RC4WD.
James "Turbofest" Caruso took his Super Bully Crawler to ECC "East Coast Championships" to test his skills and rig against some of the best super class drivers in the country. James used the RC4WD Super Bully 65:1 Axles, and titanium hardware on his custom built Super Crawler. He also built his own chassis and OTA "over the axle" steering setup for this truck leading to domination in the Super Class. After 4 courses James pulled away with the win by one point.
There were a total of 3 RC4WD Super Bully axled rigs in the top 6 at the ECC event. This shows that the RC4WD Super Bullies are here to stay.

2010 Short Course Nationals
Duratrax Mini’s Win Big at Enfield!
2010 1/18th Scale Nationals
Enfield, Conneticut
March 26th-28th, 2010
Some of the most exciting things come in small packages and at this year’s 1/18th National Championships, the racing was more competitive then ever with over 140 entries. Having a full line of 1/18th vehicles, Duratrax was out to stake their claim to a couple of titles…and that’s just what they did.
Production Buggy
As with most other racing events the “Production” or “Stock” classes seem to be the most competitive, the vehicles must be raced with all stock parts and it boils down to setup and driving talent.
In the production buggy class, Matt Maziarz (shown below) had his Duratrax Vendetta buggy dialed to perfection as he took the top spot on the podium proving that the Vendetta is STILL the buggy to beat. Maziarz also used the Tactic 2.4 radio system to pilot his Vendetta to the victory.
Production Short Course
One of the hottest vehicles on the planet right now is the short course truck. Duratrax worked hard to create the most competitive and durable truck on the market and it showed at this year’s event.
Duratrax’s own Rick Vessell (pictured below) took his Vendetta SC and let the crowd know he was the one to beat by laying down the overall TQ. In the main event, it was much of the same thing as Vessell put on a driving clinic as he clinched the national title for the Vendetta SC in it’s first year out.
To finish off an impressive race weekend, Vessell also took his Vendetta SC to an impressive second place finish in the highly competitive, no-holds-barred Open Short Course class.
To check out the full line of Duratrax Vendettas, make sure and check out www.duratrax.com where they are sure to have a Vendetta to suit your needs.

What started out many years ago as Mike Reedy’s vision to showcase the top drivers in the world in a format unlike any other ever used in R/C racing has grown to be one of the most anticipated and prestigious R/C races anywhere in the world.
Reedy and Team Associated are proud to announce that the 2010 Reedy International Touring Car Race of Champions will be held at Nor-Cal Hobbies in Union City, CA. Commonly referred to as "The Race Place," Nor-Cal Hobbies’ sprawling facility features a world-class on-road track in addition to their offroad, dirt oval, and carpet tracks.
Experienced owners Eric Vasutin and Kevin Jelich as well as their hand-selected staff understand how a premier R/C event should be managed. Plus, the location could not be better suited to hold an international event. In addition to three major international airports within 25 miles of the track, the city of San Francisco is just 25 miles away.
Nor-Cal Hobbies is fortunate to have four hotels within two miles of the track. Union Landing, a shopping center the size of a small city, features a 25-theater cinema, two hotels, and every major restaurant franchise including but not limited to TGI Fridays, Applebee’s, IHOP, Chili's, and a dozen more. Yes, there is a Starbucks!

Team Associated 12R5.1 Wins 2010 EFRA 1/12 Scale European Championships
2010 EFRA 1/12 Scale European Championships
Hinckley, England
March 4-7, 2010
The 2010 EFRA 1/12 Scale European Championship took place March 4-7 in Hinckley, England. A highly competitive field of drivers was on hand to compete for the coveted title in the prestigious 1/12 Modified class. The introduction of 1S LiPo batteries to the relatively simple, yet high-tech racing chassis has fueled new interest in the class.
Although Team Associated competed with a small team, the impact they had on the competition was enormous. Factory team drivers Juho Levänen, Ronald Völker, and Olly Jeffries dominated qualifying and completed the 1-2-3 sweep! Never split by more than a few seconds over the course of qualifying, these three drivers impressively displayed the superior handling and drivability of the 12R5.1.
As the A-finals began, it was clear that the fight would be between two drivers, Levänen and Völker. In leg 1, Ronald and Juho ran nose to tail until the last lap when Juho made a late charge and passed Ronald two corners from the finish line. In leg 2, Levänen made a mistake and relinquished the lead to Völker who maintained the advantage and crossed the line with a 1.5-second margin of victory.
A split result in the first two legs meant that the third and final leg would determine the champion.
After the excitement of the first two finals, the third was relatively uneventful. Juho Levänen leapt into the lead from the pole position and never looked back, leading from start to finish becoming the 2010 1/12 European Champion. Ronald Völker fished second overall while Olly Jeffries overcame some bad luck to finish fith overall.

Novak's Kinetic Claims its First Win!
2010 Cactus Classic
Scottsdale, AZ
March 19-20, 2010
Novak’s new Kinetic Racing Brushless ESC made a bold statement at the Cactus Classic on March 19-21, 2010. Jeremy Fellas spearheaded the impressive Kinetic-powered finishes by earning the top qualifying honors in 2WD Stock (13.5) Buggy and 2WD Stock (13.5) Truck. He also received the overall win in both classes, winning two out of three of the triple A-Mains.
In the 2WD Truck Division, three other drivers powered their Kinetic’s to top finishes. Danny Stojackovic finished fourth overall and fifth overall in the 2WD Buggy Division. Kevin Smit finished sixth in 2WD Truck. Team Novak Driver Bill Koch, who used a Ballistic 17.5T Brushless Motor in the 13.5T Division, finished a remarkable seventh overall. Furthermore, Koch placed fifth overall in the 10.5T Division with a Ballistic 13.5T.
Of the seven Kinetic ESCs at the event, all seven were used to help these drivers race in the A-Mains.
Other Novak-powered ESCs and motors were featured in the A-Mains. Team Novak Driver Jeff Helms placed his Pro-2 entry seventh overall using a GTB ESC and Ballistic 10.5T. Mac Mitchell bumped up to the A-Final of Pro-2 using a Havoc Pro and Ballistic 10.5T; he finished eighth overall.
Thank you to all of the drivers who supported Novak, and congratulations to the Cactus winners!
O’Donnell / Motorama…The Winning Tradition Continues!
2010 Motorama
Harrisburg, PA
February 20-21, 2010
Just as they did last year, the O’Donnell Team came into Motorama with something to prove. This time it was with three new cars, the Z01-B SG, Z01-T SG and the Z01-E. On-road legend and team driver Barry Baker was also out to prove that he could run with some of the best off-road drivers in the country.
Electric 1/8 Buggy
Baker went out in the first round and set a blistering pace, taking the TQ for the round. When all the rounds were finished and the qual points were tallied, Baker ended up second overall. In the main, however, Baker had other plans — he took the early lead and never looked back. The brand new Z01-E never missed a beat either, proving that it will be a car to reckon with. Baker also used the Team Checkpoint 5000 / 40c LiPo racing packs to provide the juice needed to take the win.
Nitro 1/8 Pro Buggy
Disappointed with his second qualifying spot in electric buggy, Baker laid the smack down and proved to everyone that on-road drivers CAN drive off-road! Besides the excellent drive by the “Fabulous One”, the Z01-B SG was extremely impressive in its national debut, taking the overall TQ in the premiere class. Unfortunately, a few miscues in the main event dropped Baker back to a sixth place finish.
Nitro 1/8 Pro Truggy
If other drivers don’t know this by now, the last thing you want to do is motivate Baker…all it does is make him drive harder and faster…and that’s what he did in the truggy main event. The first half of the race saw an epic battle between Baker and Jason Ashton…some people even stated it was one of the best races they ever saw. After Ashton had a slight issue, Phillip Atondo was there to pick up the slack and another epic chase began. In the end, the “Fabulous One” took the win in pro truggy.
Once again, O’Donnell proved that you don’t want to mess with the underdog, because you might get bitten!
Team Tekin pilot Jason Schreffler Tq's and wins the 2010 Snowbirds!
2010 Snowbird Nationals
Orlando, Florida
January 26-31, 2010
Running a Tekin RS Pro Jason Tq'd and dominated the 13.5 Rubber TC class, the hottest class at the Birds which was filled by some of the toughest, fastest, and most competitive Tc racers in the world. Jason's Tekin/TOP/Thunder Power car was on a mission all weekend. Fellow team drivers Larry Fairtrace and Jeff Cuffs also appearing in the A for 13.5 Rubber class.
Brad Johnson also won the 17.5 Rubber TC class closely followed by Tq Jeff Cuffs who was less than 1.5 seconds behind him! Close racing indeed. Jeff Cuffs also Tq'd the heavily contested 17.5 GTP class. Donny Lia also laid it down in 10.5 GTP out qualifying Hupo Honigl, fellow teammate Jason Schreffler, and Jilles Groskamp for the Tq position.
Jason even managed to qualify 7th in the Mod Rubber TC class running a 10.5! That's right a 10.5 in the mod class!

Another Punishing Weekend for Ryan Maifield and JConcepts
2010 CRCRC Winter Mid-West Electric Championships
Columbus, OH
January 16-17, 2010
Kicking off ’10 in style the CRCRC club creates a 2-week home to some of the world’s fastest drivers competing for that first win of the New Year at the Annual Winter Midwest Championships. JConcepts driver Ryan Maifield with his RC8T-CE won the 1/8th truck class and TQ’ed the 1/8th buggy class with JConcepts tires and accessories. Also in on the action for JConcepts and AE was Florida driver JR Mitch. With both drivers having recent success at the JConcepts Clash, just a month earlier it was business as usual for this AE powerhouse.
In the 1/8th buggy class Ryan chose the JConcepts Bar Codes in blue compound to tackle the field in qualifying and the Double Dees V2 tire for the 45 minute A-main. JR Mitch utilizing the same combination qualified 5th in a field of heavy-weight contenders and was a factor throughout the main events.
In the 1/8th truck division, Ryan Maifield put his RC8T-CE out front early in the A-main running on the Sevens tire in blue compound. Ryan, The "Truggy Master" had it on 100% attack - mode for the entire race, finishing a lap ahead of the competition. JR Mitch was running quick and was up front early, also on the Sevens in blue compound. After 45 minutes of brutal action, Ryan cruised in for another well deserved win with JConcepts.

In A-Main 2 Tebo took the wind and Cavalieri finished 2nd. So 4WD Modified would be the only class that would come down to the 3rd and final A-Main. Tebo drove perfect to take home the win in A-Main 3 to complete his 1st ever Sweep of all three Modified Classes at one event!

2010 Northeast Grand Slam Series Round #3
Northeast Grand Slam Series Round #3
Cincinnati, OH
January 16-17, 2010
Team Associated Factory Team driver Keven Hébert filed the following report:
The third leg of the NEGS(Northeast Grand Slam Series) was held the weekend of January 16-17 in at Tri-State Hobbies in Cincinnati, Ohio. Having missed the second leg of the series, I had some extra pressure to do well now that I had already used my one throw-out.
Friday was practice all day and early on I was very happy with both my TC5R and 12R5.1. Along with Paul Ciccarello, I was setting some of the fastest lap times in both Pro Rubber class and Pro 1/12 Class. Chris Goetz was also showing some early speed and was turning some fast laps with his Schumacher car in the rubber class.
Three rounds of qualifying were scheduled for Saturday. At the end of the day, I had secured TQ in both the Rubber Touring Car and 1/12 classes with a comfortable five-second lead in TC and six seconds in 1/12.
The last round of qualifying and the mains were scheduled for Sunday. In the last round, I made a minor change to my TC5R and during the warm-up lap, I knew it was going to be a good round! I improved my overnight TQ by a little over two seconds to secure TQ with Chris Goetz in second, Paul Ciccarello in third, and Robbie Dodge in fourth. In the last 1/12 qualifier, I ran fresh tires for the first time; and it was the right way to go. My car did not get loose halfway through the run like it did with rerun tires so I was able to improve my time by five seconds. After qualifying was over, I was TQ with Steve Radecky in second, Mike Pulfer in third, and Paul
Ciccarello in fourth.
The A Mains went just as well as qualifying. In TC I took off at the start with Chicky taking the second spot from Goetz early in the race. While they fought for
position, I had a clear track in front of me which allowed me to extend my lead. I was able to maintain the gap and win the main. Craig Xavier finished second with Chris Goetz in third, and Paul Ciccarello in fourth after a big crash on the last lap.
In the 1/12 Pro A Main, the tone sounded and two laps in I lost the lead after hitting a turn marshal in the middle of the track. Mike Pulfer went by into the lead with Chicky right behind me. We ran like this for about four laps until Pulfer made a mistake and I took the lead again. Chicky stayed close to me the entire race but I was able to hold him off and take the win. Paul Ciccarello finished in second with Aaron Buran in third.
