Big 5 GPS Meter

Ever wondered just how fast your RC car is capable of going? Ever get into a heated debate with a fellow bash or race buddy over which of your cars is faster? Unless you’ve got access to a commercial grade radar gun, the answer is still just a combination of irrationally composed hypotheses and speculation … until now. With the Big 5 GPS meter, you can record the top (Peak) speed of your vehicle or anyone else’s for that matter. Monitoring and recording top speed is just one of the many features on the Big 5 so let’s take a close look to see what it’s all about.

The Big 5 can be mounted to pretty much any vehicle with hook and loop, double sided tape or zip ties. It records an array of data including, but not limited to Peak Speed, Average Speed, GPS coordinates and Peak Altitude. By downloading the GPS Logger app for free from Hobbico’s website you can upload your data to your PC or even Google Earth. In the app, you can also read the data from all recorded runs. The 3-button design of the Big 5 makes it easy to use and the small size makes it easy to mount almost anywhere.

We used our meter in a few different vehicles from Hobbico and recorded a few runs with it in our Associated Apex Drift Scion (Reviewed a few issues back in RC Driver). With a 2S 4000mAh 20C pack, we saw a top speed of 32 MPH and that was on a small, bumpy parking lot. In the GPS Logger app, you can upload your runs to view data pertaining to the duration of the run recorded, peak altitude, peak speed, step time and distance traveled. You can also switch between metric and imperial measurements in the software with the app. Long gone are the days of arguing all summer long over whose car is faster. Grab a Big 5 GPS meter and the numbers will speak for themselves.
