All Around Grip with the AKA Roadblock Tires

RoadBlock_AKA_4
It is always a good day when the UPS man delivers a box full of goodies from AKA to my door. Inside was four AKA Roadblock tires with Red inserts and Cyclone wheels. I immediately knew these would be perfect for my Traxxas Rally!

There are tires for nearly every application on the market today. On-road, off-road, loose tracks, high-bite tracks, mud, sand, and everything in between. Sometimes though, you just want a great all-around tire capable of performing well on-road and off. Enter the new Roadblock tires from the people over at AKA. Featuring a thick tread pattern and available in the well-proven AKA soft rubber compound, this tire should be at home on short course trucks as well as rally cars. As soon as a set of four Roadblocks with red inserts arrived at my door, along with AKAs popular Cyclone wheels, I reached for my AKA Premium Tire Glue and got to work.  Once the glue was dry, I installed them onto my Traxxas Rally and headed outside for some fun.

First stop was right outside my house on some asphalt. I went back and forth in front of my house at about half throttle, making a few sweeping turns across the road to get a feel for the tires. I was immediately impressed with how much grip the Roadblocks had as the Rally darted from side to side with ease. I then opened it up and pulled the throttle all the way back. The Rally took off without any wheel spin and was gone. When I grabbed for the brake, it also stopped with great control in a straight line. I ripped up and down the road several times, taking sweeping and sharp turns and the reaction of the Rally on the Roadblock tires was exceptional.

Next stop was the stone dust parking lot across the street from my house. The lot had some good use and was rather rutty and very loose. Ripping the Rally around on it with the Roadblock tires was an absolute blast as I was able to predictably power-slide it around corners like a full-scale rally machine. Between ripping on the asphalt and stone dust parking lot, the battery started to run down so it was time for a break. While recharging the battery and letting the motor cool, I inspected the tread of the tires. While I was expecting some moderate tire wear due to the use on asphalt, the tires, while a bit dirty and dusty, were in great shape.

The last stop for now was my backyard for some fun on the grass. I had mowed the lawn the previous day so it was not all that long, making it ideal for some vehicle testing. Here, the Rally riding on the Roadblock tires was just as at home as it was on asphalt and the stone dust parking lot. The Rally had plenty of grip and great steering response.

WRAP UP

Even though I have only run a few packs on the Roadblock tires from AKA I am already a fan. They are the ideal all-around tire as they truly are a multi-surface tire. An off-road tire would have been destroyed on asphalt while an on-road tire would not have worked well on the stone dust lot or on grass. The Roadblock performed like a champ on all three. If you are looking for a new shoes for your short course truck or rally car, grab yourself four of these…you will not be disappointed.
