These Are The Drivers You’ve Been Looking For – MIP Nut Drivers

Moore’s Ideal Products, better known to the masses as MIP, has been producing top quality tools, accessories conversion kits and more for serious radio controlled enthusiast for nearly 40-years.  Their hex head drivers have long been an industry favorite because they are made to last with tips that are nearly indestructible and just don’t round off even after much use.  After many requests, MIP went to the design room and set out to create top end Nut Drivers that the industry has wanted for a great many years.  When MIP was confident they had designed perfect nut driver they let the public and started taking pre-orders for standard and SAE drivers and sets. We here are RC Driver jumped on the pre-order bandwagon and ordered up a full set of the metric nut drivers.

MIP Nut Drivers
All the most popular nut driver sizes all in one set from industry leader MIP. From front to back, 4.0mm, 5.0mm, 5.5mm, 7.0mm and 8.0mm.

MIP Nut Drivers
The classic amber colored handle found on all MIP hex drivers is also employed on all of the new MIP Nut Drivers. They are the perfect size, have a great feel and best of all, won’t roll away when placed down on a work bench.

The metric MIP Nut Driver set comes with 5 total tools; 4.0mm, 5.0mm, 5.5mm, 7.0mm and 8.0mm.  These are the most often used metric sizes and should take care of every nut on vehicles from 1:18 all the way to 1:8 in size.  As expected, each nut driver has an amber colored plastic handle that   is ridges so it won’t roll off a pit bench and so the user can get a good grip when torquing down a nut.  Moving down from the handle toward the tip, each of the 5 MIP Nut Drivers has a color-coded band for easy identification.  The 4.0mm driver has a gray/silver band, the 5.0mm has a purple band, the 5.5mm has a green band, the 7.0mm driver has a blue band and the 8.0mm driver has a red band.  The shank of each driver exiting the handle and leading up to the tip measures about 35mm (1.3”) and each is laser etched with the size of the driver and the MIP logo.  With a nice short shank, it is easy to get good leverage on the MIP Nut Drivers when taking off a stubborn nut or when torqueing one down.

Now what you’ve been waiting for, the tip!  Each tip is about 23mm long with a rather deep bore averaging about 20mm.  The wall of each driver is just over 1mm in thickness so it can be used in tight spaces.  Let’s talk materials for a moment.  The shank and tip of these drivers is made from alloy steel that has been heat treated and then nickel coated to help prevent oxidization.  The result is a tool that measures 70+ on the Rockwell hardness scale.  The combination of the amber handle, shank and tip results is a tool with a near perfect feel and balance making for a pleasurable wrenching experience.
