Stock Axial SCX6 1/6-scale Rock Crawlers

Following are the two currently available stock Axial SCX6 1/6-scale rock crawlers that are available. The SCX6 Jeep JLU Wrangler 4X4 RTR rock crawler and the SCX6 Trail Honcho 4X4 RTR rock crawler.

Pro-Line 1978 Chevy K-10—PRO359800

Old school, square body fans will love the first of the must-see Pro-Line lids for the giant Axial SCX6 crawler. Here is the 1978 Chevy K-10 clear body that was made to fit the giant chassis dimensions of the SCX6 rock crawler. Pro-Line took the extra steps and secured licensing from GM to produce this pick-up truck body. The ’78 Chevy K-10 styling is arguably one of the most popular trucks from that generation. The extra thick 2mm crystal clear polycarbonate is beautifully molded with the same body lines and squared-off style that you would find on the full size 4×4. The extra thickness of the polycarbonate will be welcomed out on the trail for those inevitable run-ins with rocks and branches not to mention rollovers.

In order to get the Pro-Line 1978 Chevy K-10 mounted up on the Axial SCX6 chassis, you will need to pick up a body post set from Axial (#AXI350001). Install the posts onto the chassis, measure and mark the body post holes on the body before you paint and this will make mounting the body a breeze. Like all of Pro-Line bodies, this K-10 comes with the indispensable paint-then-peel overspray film that protects the body from overspray and there are also window masks included. After the paint is laid down and the film is removed, you have a nice sheet of detail stickers to complete the body.

Pro-Line Cliffhanger High Performance—PRO359800

The Pro-Line Cliffhanger High Performance clear body was designed with the hobbyist who is planning to take part in the competitive crawling scene. It features a pinched front end and a dove-tailed rear end in order to give the tires of the SCX6 maximum clearance from coming into contact with the body. Pro-Line gets extra credit for not only creating this purpose built rock crawling body, but also for giving it some great styling so that its looks do not suffer. This competitive rock crawling body still looks like a pick-up truck and not some bizarre one-off creation.

Similar to all the Pro-Line bodies featured here, the Cliffhanger comes clear so that you can lay down your desired paint scheme. To help you achieve a pro-level finish, Pro-Line delivers the body with their paint-then-peel overspray film on the outside of the body along with window masks and a decal sheet to bring the body to life. This body is molded from a single piece of crystal-clear polycarbonate and has been optimized for maximum crawling performance while still complying with the letter and spirit of the competition crawling rules. Don’t forget to pick up the AXI350001 body post set from Axial so you can get the Cliffhanger mounted up on the SCX6 chassis.

Pro-Line Coyote Grande—PRO364200

Here is the newest body release from Pro-Line for the Axial SCX6 rock crawler. Like the Cliffhanger High Performance body shown above, the Coyote Grande is another purpose-designed body for the competitive rock crawling scene. Its SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) design gives comp crawlers a nice variant to the pick-up truck style of the Cliffhanger. You can quickly tell by its appearance that the Coyote Grande harkens back to the dawn of domestic Sport Utility Vehicles in the late 1980’s. To make the Coyote Grande 100-percent functional for crawling, Pro-Line gave it a dove-tailed rear end, a pinched front end and wheel arches with plenty of tire clearance. Even approach and departure angles were addressed and Pro-Line’s designers gave the body short overhangs. All of this was done while still complying with the letter and spirit of the competition crawling rules.

Inside the bag along with the Coyote Grande clear polycarbonate body is a detailed decal sheet and window mask sheet. The body comes protected with paint-then-peel overspray film to aid you in the painting process. Keep in mind that due to the windshield positioning and SUV roofline of this body, Pro-Line’s Extended Body Mount Kit (#PRO640300) is required to mount this body onto the Axial SCX6 chassis.

Pro-Line 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty—PRO361600

It is not easy to miss the commanding look of this Pro-Line 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty cab-only clear body for the Axial SCX6 rock crawler. The colossal 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty has been faithfully recreated by Pro-Line in 1/6-scale for all you blue oval fans and brings some American HD looks to the 1/6 crawler scene. Quickly paint the body up utilizing the included window mask and overspray film. The last touch to make the body a true standout is applying the detail stickers.

You can bolt this slightly pinched body directly onto the stock Axial SCX6 Honcho rear cage. The cage is available separately, part number AXI250012. Then to attach the body and cage onto the chassis, you will need to use the Pro-Line SCX6 body post kit (PRO640300) featured at the end of this article. If you are starting with the Axial SCX6 Jeep JLU Wrangler rock crawler, you will need to use the Honcho rear cage and the Axial AXI250013 Demello Front Bumper.

Pro-Line 1985 Toyota HiLux SR5—PRO362200

Thumbs up to Pro-Line for not forgetting the Toyota truck fanatics and producing the great-looking 1985 Toyota HiLux SR5 Xtra Cab. What a great option for customizing the stock appearance of the stock Axial SCX6 rock crawler with an iconic, retro 80’s Toyota look. Just like the Pro-Line 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty body mentioned above, this Toyota body will attach directly onto the stock Axial SCX6 Honcho rear cage. The cage is available separately, part number AXI250012. You will also need to use the Pro-Line SCX6 body post kit (PRO640300) featured at the end of this article. If you are starting with the Axial SCX6 Jeep JLU Wrangler rock crawler, you will need to use the Honcho rear cage and the Axial AXI250013 Demello Front Bumper.

When you pull the Pro-Line 1985 Toyota HiLux SR5 body out of the packaging, you will find the body which is molded in crystal clear polycarbonate along with overspray film already applied to it, window masks and a detail sticker sheet. A simple paint scheme is all you need to end up with a complete 1/6 rock crawler that will be envied by all.

The key to mount aftermarket bodies on the Axial SCX6 rock crawler

The Pro-Line 1/6 Extended Body Mount Kit is an essential accessory for the Axial SCX6 when you are looking to switch from one of the stock Axial bodies to an aftermarket one. In this kit, Pro-Line includes relocated, adjustable front body mounts with multiple post options so that they can fit any shape or style body. Comparted to the stock SCX6, the front mounts have been moved ahead of the shocks/servo mount. This forward placement will lessen the chance of the body posts from interfering with the windshield or cowl details.

Pro-Line did not focus all their attention just to the front of the SCX6 with this body mount kit. In order for the SCX6 crawler to accommodate SUV style bodies that have a high rear roof line, like the Pro-Line Coyote Grande body, a tall rear post is included. The rear post comes as one piece with cross bracing to provide a solid mounting point for the rear of SUV bodies.
