Race Report – The JConcepts Turf Nationals at R/C Madness

track

From September 9th to the 11th R/C Madness in Enfield, CT served as host to the second annual JConcepts Turf Nationals.  Taking place on the outdoor AstroTurf track that was specially built 2 years ago for high traction racing, this 100 x 72 track took skill and patience to navigate.  Several classes of the most popular 1:10 classes took to the turf over the weekend including 2wd mod, 4wd mod, 17.5 Expert buggy, 17.5 Independent buggy (no sponsors), 13.5 4wd buggy, 40+ 2wd mod, 17.5 SCT, SCT Mod, 17.5 Stadium truck, Stadium truck Mod.  Handout JConcepts Pin Downs and Swaggers tires were used in buggy classes to keep things fair while those participating in truck classes could use any tire deemed necessary.

Friday and early Saturday (as people tried to avoid AM raindrops) was open practice so racers could dial in their rides followed by 2 rounds of qualifying.  A few more raindrops fell early Sunday before the third and final qualifier followed by the mains.

In the popular 2wd Mod class Connecticut native Alex Kosciuszek (Alex K for short) took TQ honors followed by the man, the myth, the legend Jason Ruona and another local hero Cameron Dopp.  I had a chance to get a closer look at these cars before they hit the turf for the mains – check out the pictures!

TQ and winner of 2wd Mod was running a Team Associated B6.  While it had a few option parts, almost everything could be bought at a good hobby shop.

Check out what Jason Ruona was running and some spy shots of items that will soon be released!

While Alex K checked out and cruised to victory with Jason Ruona in second the rest of the field had some hot racing with Rob Rinaldi eventually locking down the 3rd spot.

In 4wd Mod Chris Emilio was the top qualifier running a freshly built and nearly bone stock 22-4.  Here are some pictures of his ride.

TQ Chris Emilio had a tough go of it in the main and finished 4th.  Aaron Kothman took the win followed by Scott Furtado and Brian Roeder.

Mains ran into Sunday evening without a hitch with some phenomenal racing.  Here are the A-Main results for all classes.

th a great turnout of nearly 280 entries Chris Marcy and the entire R/C Madness crew did a phenomenal job preparing the facility and track.  While not everyone is sold on AstroTurf racing all in attendance for the JConcepts Turf Nationals were more than completely satisfied and it seems this race will only grow and grow.
