One year ago I introduced you to Adam Munds here in the Backyard page and shared with you his passion for the RC hobby and how he used that passion to organize RC Fest. This one-day event was created to promote the hobby and more importantly, educate people on the importance of blood donation. The local blood mobile was on hand to accept donations of blood and money. To date, he is responsible for more than 10 gallons of blood and $5,000 being donated to the Community Blood Services of Illinois. With the drive this young man is demonstrating I imagine those numbers growing quickly.

In August of 2015, RC Fest is celebrating its fifth year with a two-day event in Tolono Illinois. Adam, who is 14 years old, has been busy spreading the word about RC fest and is anticipating its largest attendance yet. Day one will be filled with RC fun & mayhem, including a bus jump bigger than last year’s. Day two will be a clinic at nearby Parkland College.

Adam has met many RC industry folks over the past year and has acquired sponsorship for his event from companies including Horizon Hobby, ECX, Falcon Hobby Supply, Hobbit, Axial Racing, Gravity RC, Slot and Wing Hobbies, Spectrum RC, Cow RC, Pro-Line,  Parkland Auto Racing, AKA and Castle Creations. RC Fest is always free to attend and enter, by the way.

RECOGNITION

Adam is making a name for himself locally and has met with news media to promote his efforts. He was recently given a Proclamation by a former Illinois Governor naming July as Blood Adam giving his acceptance speech after being honored as the most innovative blood drive coordinator in Illinois.
Drive Coordinator Month in the state because of Adam’s blood drive efforts. He was also given an award for being the Most Innovative Blood Drive Coordinator in the entire state of Illinois. Not bad for a kid in middle school, don’t you think?

WHEN & WHERE

August 8 & 9, 2015 (Editors Note: This was a previous event, look for future events like this!) 408 West Holden Street, Tolono, IL 61880

If you are within driving distance and want to participate in an RC event with a noble cause then make plans now to attend. Last year’s event had participants from as far as California. I spoke with Adam and he has the right attitude and ambition to make this a no-stress, all-fun event that saves lives. Not many RC events can claim that. So prep your RC rides and plan to attend… then let me know how it goes.
