Today’s RC tasks have moved us out to our workbench in our garage. We have lots of projects in the works and bench space is limited. Today we’re working on assembling our Pro-Line X-Maxx Trencher tire and Pro-Loc rim combo. Sure we could have picked up Pro-Line’s assembled wheels and tires, but what’s the fun in that? We want OUR hands to hurt when the job is finished. Actually these Pro-Loc beadlock wheels are pretty easy to assemble once you complete the first one. Here are a few photos we took along the way while assembling the rims and tires.
Here is a shot of the rim with the ring removed so you can see the inset in the wheel where the tire sits in. These wheels are super strong and the styling is excellent as you would expect from Pro-Line
So, here is a shot of the Pro-Lock bead on the tire. As you can see, the retaining screws go through the tire to help secure it. Much better than just the simple pinch system other tire/ wheel combos use.
The foam inside of the tire is very firm and it takes a bit of force to push the rim into the foam and tire. Make sure the foam sits correctly inside of the tire before assembly.
After pushing the rim into the tire, we placed the ring on the front side of the wheel and inserted several screws to help align the tire. We also made sure the screws were right over the rim holes.
Next push the ring down and give it a little rock, back and forth to help the tire bead seat into the rims inset.
Prefferably, using an electric driver, tighten the screws in a cross pattern. Just screw them in a few threads. Next insert the rest of the screws and start tightening them down in a star pattern. Screw the screws a little at a time, not all the way at once. You’ll want to “work” the tire into the rim so it seats properly.
This isn’t going to be a quick assembly, but we’re excited to try out these huge meats on our Traxxas X-Maxx.
