Robinson Slash Stampede 4x4 spur gear options

Robinson Racing has a large offering of pinion gears, spur and slipper options for many of today’s popular vehicles. One popular gear upgrade is for the Stampede/ Slash 4×4 spur with slipper unit. The stock Traxxas gear is plastic so increase durability in this critical driveline part, Robinson developed a series of Hard Blackened Steel spurs. A 45T speed spur and a 50T and 54T standard size spur that accepts telemetry. We were in the midst of building a Stampede 4×4 when these gears arrived so we documented the easy install for those looking to upgrade.

Step 1: Remove the gear cover. To do so, you'll need to remove the top cover screw and pop the cover off.

Unscrew the four retaining screws (two on top and two on the bottom) that hold the rear clip to the chassis.
Step 2: Unscrew the four retaining screws (two on top and two on the bottom) that hold the rear clip to the chassis.
Gently wiggle and pull the rear clip to separate it from the chassis.
Step 3: Gently wiggle and pull the rear clip to separate it from the chassis.
Now the slipper assembly should slide right out.
Step 4: Now the slipper assembly should slide right out.
Unscrew the three screws that secure the stock gear to the slipper.

Slide the new spur onto the stock slipper assembly. Then slide the Robinson lock-washers onto the stock screw and tighten the screws firmly into the slipper assembly.

While we were installing a new spur, we also decided to install a new Robinson pinion and thread locked the set screw with Zap Z-42.

Once the new gears are in place, slide the slipper back in, reinstall the rear clip and set the pinion and spur mesh.
