That’s where RC can come into play and has here. Team Associated has released the Apex 2 Hoonicorn RTR. An amazing 1/10 replica of the newest Hoonicorn. The body is a licensed Ford Mustang and looks just like the real car with tons of amazing detail and vibrant graphics. Under the body, the Apex 2 chassis is assembled from the factory with a 4wd driveline, independant suspension and a reliable electronics package to get anyone into RC car driving successfully! IN THE BOX
The Team Associated Apex 2 Hoonicorn arrives assembled from the factory and includes the radio, electronics, manuals, decals, and a small bag of a few spare parts. Don’t throw away that box! You can cut it up and tape it together to create your own burn yard with the printed panels inside the box. The perfect spot to store your ride when not in use!
THE BODY
Wow, is that an amazing recreation of the Hoonicorn. The body is painted and decaled from the factory and AE nailed with with all the details you’d find on the real car. We love the twin turbos sticking out of the hood! The widebody looks awesome. The rear diffuser, the side ducts, you just can’t stop looking at this car!
CHASSIS DETAILS
The Apex 2 is a pretty impressive platform for a modern RTR, it has a G10 fiberglass chassis with bracing to make it a solid backbone. The chassis is nicely laid out and built well from the factory. The steering is a simple dual crank set-up with fixed links.
SUSPENSION
At first the suspension arms looked a bit generic, but after a closer inpection, they seem like solid arms. The double wishbone suspension set-up is the same in the rear so having parts on hand will service both ends of the car. The oil filled shocks feel plush from the factory and much of the components are fixed rather than tunable which is fine for a car that will be thrashed around a parking lot. The shock towers are G10 too which is nice touch!
DRIVELINE
It’s kind of your standard truing car drivline bolted in this car. Gear differentials front and rear. Ball bearings, metal dogbones on all four corners and in the center. The unique parts are in the center. A center spool and a motor plate that has an idler gear so you can set your gearmesh right before dropping it into the car.
ELECTRONICS
The Reedy based electronics set-up is looking pretty good! A 550 size motor, 2-3S ESC and metal gear servo come installed in the car. You just have to add batteries and a charger to get his ride going!
ROAD TEASE
If you want to see the Hoonicorn run, you’ll have to check out our Youtube channel where we shred this beast in a couple of skate-parks. Hooning is all about driving hard and we gave this car a serious thrash test! You need to see if it survived. But for now, here’s some photos while all the body work was still pretty!
