We live during a very fortunate time where people can enter into RC with relative ease thanks to the numerous ready-to-run (RTR) vehicles that are available. RTR vehicles come completely assembled including the body, radio system and typically all you have to add is a battery pack and battery charger. So, instead of a newcomer being faced with an entire chassis that needs to be assembled, they can purchase a RTR and be up and running in the time it takes to charge a battery pack. Now one of the downsides to the RTRs is that your vehicle looks like all the other RTRs and that can become a bit boring especially if you run your car or truck with other people. In this article we show you how you can completely and easily transform your RTR with Pro-Line aftermarket parts. We are focusing on three specific RTR vehicles, namely the Arrma Kraton 6S brushless monster truck, Tamiya CR-01 rock crawler and Traxxas 1/16 E-Revo electric monster truck. Even if you don’t own one of these vehicles, you can still apply the same concepts to your RTR…so read on.
TRUCK 1 – Arrma Kraton 6S brushless monster truck
Pro-Line Road Rage 3.8” Street Tires Mounted — #1177-10
When you want to transform your RTR and you own a super-powerful monster truck that is powered by a 6S brushless motor system like the Arrma Kraton, you are going to perform a load of high-speed passes up and down the street. In order to better dial-in the on-road handling of a truck like the Kraton, we suggest swapping out the stock wheels and tires for these pre-mounted Pro-Line Road Rage 3.8” Street Tires. The Road Rage tires are designed with an ultra-low sidewall and gives you the maximum in predictability, stability and responsiveness.
Now the tire does not get all the attention because the wheel that Pro-Line includes is quite cool. The Pro-Line Raid 3.8” Removable Hex Wheel allows you to replace a damaged wheel hex without needing to replace an entire glued tire. A unique interlocking hex design is bolted into the wheel using eight M3 screws. If the wheel hex becomes damaged, just unscrew the M3 screws and install a new wheel hex.
Pro-Line Pre-Cut Brute Clear Body — #3521-17
Depending on what you want to do with the Arrma Kraton, we selected two body options for you. The first is the Pro-Line Pre-Cut Brute Clear Body that is purpose built to fit the unique shape of the Kraton including the inner cage. The Brute has modern styling with a bold grill and smooth body lines. You also benefit with having the body come pre-cut to eliminate one of the body mounting steps and it will look just right once mounted. All that is left is to add the paint scheme of your choosing and then your Kraton will have its own special look.
Pro-Line Pre-Cut Brute Bash Armor (White) Body — #3521-15
Here is the other body we picked for the Arrma Kraton. Although it is also pre-cut, this body is molded from Pro-Line’s Bash Armor material which is twice as thick as regular 1/8-scale bodies yet is ultra-flexible to reduce the chance of cracking and shattering. The super durable Brute Bash Armor body was developed from the ground up to be the toughest body Pro-Line has ever produced. Like the Brute body shown above, this body is also designed to perfectly fit on the Kraton chassis.
Since it is made from the Bash Armor material, it comes molded in white and is not paintable. Pro-Line does provide a detail sticker sheet so that you can take the all-white body and complete its look. If you need a body to be super durable, this is your answer. And if you want a body that you can lay down a custom paint job while foregoing a bit a durability, you should get the Pro-Line Pre-Cut Brute Clear Body.
TRUCK 2 – Tamiya CR-01 rock crawler
Pro-Line 1966 Chevrolet C-10 Clear Body — #3483-00
The old-school styling of the Pro-Line 1966 Chevrolet C-10 body is just killer looking. It is a great way to transform the looks of the Tamiya CR-01 crawler. The 1966 Chevrolet C-10 is an officially licensed body that comes in two separate pieces: the front cab section and the rear bed.
With a close look, you can see that Pro-Line took its time and carefully sculpted it with realistic undercut detail that is only made possible with Pro-Line’s new molding technology. Without that technology, the C-10 would not have all of its stunning detail. Along with the two molded body parts, a detail sticker sheet, window mask and overspray film is included.
Pro-Line Classic Interior — #3495-00
The key to achieving a realistic scale look is to keep the windows clear when you paint a RC body, especially one with the looks of the 1966 Chevrolet C-10. There is another step that you can add to make your truck look as scale as possible and that is with a Pro-Line Classic Interior. This way, when you peer through the window and look inside the body, you won’t see the RC chassis, but rather a scale interior complete with seats, seat belts and dashboard.
The Classic Interior comes clear so that you can paint it to complement the rest of the truck and you can even install your own scale steering wheel. Pro-Line also gives you a nice set of decals to make it all come together.
Pro-Line Interco Bogger 1.9” G8 Rock Terrain Tires Mounted — #10133-10
Tamiya spec’d relatively large tires for the CR-01 and they don’t quite fit the bill for a scale looking crawler. Instead try the Pro-Line Interco Bogger 1.9” G8 Rock Terrain Tires that can give this rig perfect scale detail. These are essentially mud bogging tires, however the directional tread pattern with patented Interco TSL (three stage lug) design are just too cool looking.
These tires come pre-mounted on Pro-Line Impulse black plastic 1.9” wheels. It has a three piece wheel design that bolts together in the back and locks on to the Interco Bogger tires via 6 screws. The aggressive tough looks of these tires make a perfect addition and completes the transformation of the Tamiya CR-01.
TRUCK 3 – Traxxas 1/16 E-Revo electric monster truck
Pro-Line Ford F-150 Raptor SVT body — #3360-00
The stock body on the Traxxas 1/16 E-Revo has an ultramodern look to it so we decided a body that has a more realistic appearance would be a nice change of pace and picked the Pro-Line Ford F-150 Raptor SVT body. This body has the same bold grill, hood vents and fender flairs as the full-size Raptor SVT. Pro-Line gave it every detail so that it will make your truck possess the ultimate in off-road styling.
Don’t worry about fit because Pro-Line designed this officially licensed body to perfectly fit on to the 1/16 E-Revo. It is made from crystal clear polycarbonate with paint and peel overspray film, a detail sticker sheet and window mask. Just pick up some paint and your E-Revo will have a great new look.
Pro-Line Sling Shot 2.2” Paddle Tires Mounted — #10101-10
Along with a new look for the 1/16 E-Revo, we thought that we would make it a bit more purpose built for a certain type of terrain…sand! The Sling Shot 2.2” mounted paddle tires are a quick and easy upgrade for this tiny truck and will make it a total blast out in the sand. If you have never driven an RC vehicle with paddle tires, you are missing out. The sand roost that they can create thanks to the big molded paddles is incredibly cool.
And you are not limited to just sand because they will also work in snow or even mud. Each of the Sling Shot tires are wrapped around the Pro-Line 6-spoke Desperado Wheel. Their wider offset will make the E-Revo more stable and will handle bumps and jumps like a race-prepped vehicle. Pro-Line uses a one-piece design for the Desperado wheels and have them molded out of extremely durable nylon material. They look awesome in black and have a molded in bead-loc ring for a nice scale detail.
Pro-Line 2” Super-Bright LED Light Bar Kit — #6276-00
We are not going to let a little darkness keep this modified Traxxas 1/16 E-Revo from some off-road action, so we picked this 2” Super-Bright LED Light Bar Kit. It comes pre-wired with 10 LED light bulbs and a 12” long cable that you plug directly into your receiver to provide the power. There is also the option to plug it directly into a 3S LiPo battery pack for a super-bright light due to the fact that the lights are rated for 6V to 12V power. Installing the LED light bar is a breeze with the mounts and hardware that Pro-Line includes with the light bar.
