The Losi 5IVE-T has become one of the most popular 1/5-scale trucks on the market. Not only is it a blast to drive with it’s exceptional 4WD system, it’s also become a magnet for aftermarket support. You can now upgrade almost ever part on the truck; engine, steering, suspension, shocks…all the way to engine mounting inserts. What? Why would you need to upgrade those? Well, keep reading and I’ll tell you why.
The stock, 19t aluminum inserts are designed to offset the motor to attain the perfect gear mesh between the pinion and spur gears and have the pinion tooth number printed on them. If, for any reason, you need to change the pinion or spur gear (to different sizes), you’ll need to purchase another set of inserts. If you like to experiment with gearing, you’ll need to purchase all of the insert sizes (five in all). Now you’re all set, except for the fact that now you have a box full of silver inserts that all look the same. Sure, you can pick them out one by one to find the matching ones, but you can see what the issue might be if, like me, you have four or five sets of each.
Enter Vertigo Performance Products. VPP has released a full set of 5IVE-T inserts that will make gear changes easier. Simply remove the ones on the car, dig into your toolbox and grab four blue, 18t inserts…or the four gunmetal, 21t inserts. Wait, you need a 20t set? Grab the four red inserts. But wait, there’s more. Because the offset is almost spot on, Vertigo has made things even easier by double-siding their red, 20t set. Flip them around and now the 20t set becomes a 22t set!
All the inserts are precision machined, packaged in a set of four and include four fresh, 5mm screws. They are also available as a package deal with Vertigo’s Hex Drive Steel Pinions. If you don’t have any, get some. You’ll be happy you did.
