VTA Road Racing With PROTOForm

For months now, we have featured a number of stories related to Pro-Line Racing products from their tire line-up to expansive body line and even performance parts you can purchase from the leading accessory company. But those focuses have always been off-road related. What about the on-road guys. On-road racing is still a huge part of the hobby and Pro-Line does offer on-road equipment through their brand PROTOform. So this month we’ll turn our attention to the on-road guys and the products they use. More specifically we’ll focus on the popular VTA products. VTA stands for Vintage Trans Am and depending on how your local track has determined the rules, it can be a inexpensive and fun class or some others offer it as a pure competition class. Whatever style you choose, PROTOform has you covered for some support equipment you’ll need to race.

 

BODIES

1968 Ford Mustang Clear Body

If you are a blue oval fan than this American muscle car performance body will certainly give you what you’re looking for.  This is Protoforms rendition of the 1968 Ford® Mustang. This beautiful body features the Mustangs signature fastback roofline, aggressive stance, hood and pillar vents and the every detail of the iconic pony car. We’re not exactly sure how it’s done, but PF uses the latest molding technology to form this body from a single piece of polycarbonate while still maintaining realistic front and rear undercuts. We like that there aren’t any add-on front or rear clips to assemble. This body is of course a officially-licensed product and it meets all VTA Class rules. Along with the body,  a detailed decal sheet, protective overspray film and window masks are included.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Clear Body


We’ll admit that we are Chevrolet fans over here at RCD, we like everything, but Chevy really turns our heads so we’re of course drawn to this iconic first generation Camaro. PROTOform added the 1969 edition of the Z28 to thir Vintage Trans-Am racing body and we applauded the release. This body is modeled after Mark Donohue ‘s 1969 Trans-Am series championship car, the 1969 Chevrolet® Camaro™ Z28 tore up both the streets and tracks with pure American V8 power. PF captured its iconic look in 1:10 scale complete with deep-set grille and headlights, side louvers and triple-lens tail lights. Like the Mustang above, PF used the latest molding technology to form this body from single piece of high-quality polycarbonate while still maintaining realistic front and rear undercuts. This officially-licensed product meets all VTA Class rules and includes a detailed decal sheet, protective overspray film and window masks.

1971 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Clear Body


Not a 1969 Camaro fan? How about a 1971? PROTOform offers this stunning scale body of the 1971 Chevrolet® Camaro™ Z28. This is also an iconic car of its generation, the Z28 tore up both the streets and Trans-Am series tracks with pure American V8 power. In true Super Chevy® style, PF replicated the distinctive “split-bumper” configuration along with all the other signature Z28 design details for an exceptionally scale look.
The Z28 is formed from a single piece of genuine Lexan® and requires no assembly. This officially-licensed product meets all VTA Class rules and includes a detailed decal sheet, protective overspray film and window masks.

1971 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Clear Body


Now let’s discuss the PROTOform Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, a signature car of the former full-scale series, and PROTOform has captured its trademark look in their release of the 1971 model. This perfect body for VTA racing features an aggressive front “beak”, the duck tail-style rear spoiler and the show stopping shaker hood scoop. It’s clear PF didn’y overlooked any detail. The front nose cone is molded separately, and when mounted with the 2mm screws and/or liquid adhesive, it becomes an integral part of the body. Because this area of a race body is the most prone to racing wear and tear, a second nose is included. This licensed product is Pontiac body is molded in genuine .030 Lexan® material and meets all VTA Class rules. The clear body comes with protective overspray film, window masks, detailed decal sheet that lets you choose to style your Firebird as a full-blown race car, or head-turning street machine.

J71 Clear Body


Here is one of PROTOform’s first releases into the diverse class of Vintage Trans Am. It is a rendition of the 1971 Trans-Am Championship winning car and its dubbed the J71. The addition of the J71 to the VTA scene surely adds excitement and drama to this class. The J71 features all the unique styling cues as well as is a molded in rear spoiler. The front of the car features an add-on nose with air dam. When mounted with shoo goo and 2mm screws it becomes an integral part of the body. Because this area of a racebody is the most prone to racing wear and tear, a second nose is supplied with the body. This configuration allows for molding a lightweight, durable .030 lexan body, which in turn aids the handling ability of any VTA chassis.

TIRES

PROTOform VTA Tires

PROTOform didn’t stop at bodies, they also offer an official spec tire for US Vintage Trans Am Racing. This pair of VTA tires is fully-approved for USVTA Racing and is fully-capable on any surface: carpet, prepared asphalt or parking lots. Utilizing a super long-lasting compound and molding technology perfected by PF’s partners at Pro-Line Racing. That means the new VTA spec tire is 100% Made in the USA. On high-grip CRC carpet, these tires have been tested to provide an easy-to-drive handling feel and comparable lap times to previous VTA tires, all without the need for superglued sidewalls. On asphalt, these tires grip well with additives and provide realistic tire screeching sounds for an ultra-scale effect. PROTOform’s VTA tires are sold in pairs and are a direct fit on both HPI Vintage Wheels and PROTOforms VTA wheels. Included with the tires are gray open-cell foam inserts. Strap the 26mm fronts and 31mm rears to your 190mm touring car, grab a PROTOform VTA body, and go racin’, vintage style!

Wheels

Following the release of Protoforms first ever tires are these US Vintage Trans Am Racing wheels. These 8-spoke VTA wheels are the perfect way to replicate the old-school scale look and feel of vintage racing. Utilizing a super-durable nylon material and molding technology perfected by Pro-Line Racing. The PROTOform VTA wheels are sold in pairs, available in black or white, and are a direct fit on both PROTOform VTA tires and HPI Vintage tires. The 26mm fronts are 0-offset, while the 31mm rearsmeasure at +6-offset to fill the rear fenders of your 190mm touring car equipped with a PROTOform VTA body.
